Everyday people dream about their ultimate job, Kim and Carlene do not have to dream anymore. Their dream became a reality when they decided during a beach trip a few years ago to open Retreat Spa and Salon in Evans.

Both were successful stylists who wanted to create a salon atmosphere where they could look forward to coming to work each day and where their clients could relax and be pampered. They sought the best and brightest talent in the business to make this salon a success.

"We wanted to create a spa that would offer the very best services using the finest products and latest techniques, and provide a truly relaxing and tranquil atmosphere," says Kim. And it worked - Retreat was named by Columbia County Magazine readers as the "Best Place to be Pampered" and the "Best Place to Splurge on Yourself."

Creating the business was no small task, however, Kim and Carlene had to learn about construction, interior design, business and accounting. Starting Retreat from the ground up, though, has made their success satisfying and fulfilling. The salon's services include haircuts and styling, manicures, pedicures, massage therapies, facials, body treatments and finishing touches.

The duo works with The Aveda Company, an elite line of hair and skin products exclusive to Retreat in Columbia County. The company's products are made of natural ingredients, and Aveda is a "green" company.

Since Retreat opened in 2006, Kim and Carlene have also been excellent community stewards. They treat local teachers to beauty and skin care products each month, and celebrate the company's anniversary with Cut for a Cure, a one-day fundraiser where all proceeds are donated to breast cancer research.
